How to choose food service packaging that actually holds up

What to check before you commit to a supplier: claims, case quantities, container format and what a custom mould can do that a catalogue SKU can’t.

Start with the claims that matter

Every container in our range meets five claims: food contact compliant, microwaveable, dishwasher safe, leakproof and durable.

Before you compare suppliers, check that each one is stated plainly on the product page, not buried in a spec sheet. A supplier that cannot confirm all five in writing is not a fit for a food service order.

Match the container to the job

Hinged containers are one piece, no separate lid to lose, and work well for grab and go. Rectangular and round combo sets come with a matching lid and suit hot food and delivery.

Deli containers cover the smaller portion sizes, with one universal lid fitting the full range. Match the format to how the food actually travels, not just to size.

  • Hinged containers: one piece, no lid to lose, best for grab and go
  • Rectangular and round combo sets: matching lid included, suit hot food and delivery
  • Deli containers: smaller portions, one universal lid across six sizes
  • Bowls: deep sided with a dedicated lid, built for soups and wet food

Check case quantities before you order

Case quantities vary by product and by size, and they affect your landed cost per unit more than the sticker price does.

Ask for the case pack in writing before you commit to a supplier, and confirm it again on the order confirmation. A wholesale order run on assumptions is the easiest way to end up short on a Friday delivery.

Clear, black or white: does colour matter

Clear containers let the food do the presentation, which matters for retail and grab and go. Black and white read as more finished for catered and dine-in service.

The mould is the same across colours, but glossy black cannot be recoloured to white after the fact, so decide by product line, not by preference, before you place a standing order.

Combo sets vs separate lids

Combo sets bundle a container and its matching lid as one SKU, which simplifies ordering and keeps stock levels easier to track.

Deli containers work differently: one universal lid fits six container sizes, so you can stock a single lid SKU against a range of bases. Ask which system a supplier uses before you set up your reorder points.

When to consider a custom mould

A standard SKU covers most orders. When it doesn’t, a supplier with in-house mould making can take a unique size, shape or branded design from concept to production without going through a third party tool shop.

That is the difference between a packaging supplier and a packaging manufacturer, and it is worth asking which one you are actually working with.

Confirm compliance in writing

Food contact compliance is not optional and it is not something to take on trust. Ask your supplier to confirm it in writing for every SKU you order, along with any material type or safety standard you need for your own records.

A thirty-year manufacturer with its own production line should be able to answer this without hesitation.
